Week 12 and another recovery week. Managed to make it down to the track again this week for another speed session, two weeks in a row, which hasn’t happened for a while. Perhaps a symptom of Autumn marathons all completed and slightly too early for Spring marathon training to have kicked in, but only 2 of us opted for the longer session. This week a pyramid; 400m, 600m, 800m, 1k, 1200m, 1k, 800m, 600m, 400m; all off 60 sec recovery. Hard work but enjoyable, as usual I set off too fast and therefore struggled a bit with the longer reps; however I was pleased with the recovery and the last 400m were at my fastest pace of the evening.
A weekend away with Ruth’s family in Littlehampton meant a change of scenery for this weeks longer run. Four of us set off along the coast towards Worthing in the morning at a nice easy steady pace. People dropping out as and when they felt they’d run enough. As we reached Worthing, John turned round leaving me to run a solo final 2 miles before turning for the return leg. Probably upped the pace a bit too much, being nicely warmed up, which I regretted later. The wind had also picked up by the time I turned back for home, so had to contend with a strong headwind all the way back. In the end the 12 mile round trip felt a lot harder than it probably should have.
